Beltangady: Poll gimmick? – MLA laid foundation for road work, contractor clears asphalt

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (MS)

Beltangady, Mar 10: The road that connects Belenja Grama Panchayat from Gardadi, Denjoli and Bollaje is unmotorable.

MLA Harish Poonja had laid the foundation stone for laying this road without passing any tender during the last assembly election when the code of conduct was in force saying that tender for Rs 2.6 crore was carried out as part of the work.

BJP workers had put up flexes throughout the stretch of the road praising the MLA for getting the grants for laying this road.

The road construction contract was awarded to Vasanta Majalu, owner of Abdhyudaya Construction. He had also bought the asphalt and stocked the same near the road. However, he did not begin any work. Moreover, on March 8, the contractor arrived at the spot where the asphalt was stocked with a JCB to take it away for carrying out some other work in another location.

The locals prevented the contractor from removing the asphalt from the spot. They also urged the MLA to come to the spot and speak to them.

Incidentally, it is said that MLA Harish Poonja had arrived in at a nearby location to attend a programme and had left from there hurriedly without facing the public.

Compare his contribution to the Constituency in is previous period and compare with previous MLAs contribution. Almost 75% Rural road was either concrete road or asphalted by Poonjas period. He has done lot of work in his last period. Now there is no fund allotted to MLA because of free scheme.

MLA should have arrived at the spot and clarified the matter to the public. Arrogance has a fall one day. You don't need better example for this other than Congress Party of this country today.
