Mangaluru, Mar 10: Mangaluru Press Club celebrated Press Club Day on Sunday, March 10 at Maravoor, Mangaluru.

On this occasion, senior journalists Maimuna and Marzina from Harekal were awarded the Mangaluru Press Club Award- 2023 and were also felicitated for their contribution to the social cause.

Krishna Konchady, Ravi Posavanike, Ashok Shetty, Naveen Shetty, Sharath Salian, Rajesh Kini, Prakash Manjeshwara, were felicitated and honoured for their contribution in the field of journalism.

Present on this occasion was actor-director and writer Dr Devdas Kapikad who expressed happiness and said  "Bharath Shetty is loved by everyone and I am just an actor. My work is to entertain you today. It's special that it's a family programme. Giving an opportunity by giving an award is great work, and I have also witnessed a teacher getting an award. My students respected me and what our seniors teach us helps us in growing. Hence I really believe that this is an amazing programme. Today I am also scared to talk much because I am surrounded by a number of journalists and hence I don't want to say anything wrong. The work of journalists is to be the eyes and ears of the society. All should be respected and that should be taught to our children. Seniors have been teaching and educating the younger ones. Bharath Shetty has a lot of patience and such a leader is needed for  Surathkal. he has the opportunity to sit in front of Prime Minister Modi and that is a great thing. When I see you all I feel like it's one family."

On this occasion, Dr Bharath Shetty said "the politicians are seen as outsiders and they tell us that we don't want politicians to come to our programme. The Press Club day can be called a family gathering. Today, the award was given to Maimuna and Marzina among other journalists. People who are working in the media have gathered in one place where they talk about their lives. First of all Maimuna and Marzina have been awarded which signifies women empowerment. Politicians and journalists have competition. If one journalist calls us and says that I need to come on TV, another reporter later calls me to say that his job will go if I don't go. I realised the pressure of being a journalist. There is no relaxation for us. There is no private life and they have to be on the spot before everyone. This event will help relax you and also celebrate. A working journalist does not need to maintain people but he has to understand them and write."

Nikhil Shetty compered the event.

On this occasion, Dr Bharath Shetty, Devdas Kapikad, Ravindra Kumar, Walter Nandalike, Srinivasa Nayak, Ramakrishna, Naveen D'Souza, Shashidhar Hegde, Bhaskar and other senior journalists along with their families were present.
