Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Mar 10: A woman, who is a resident of Pethri Road in Hebri was cheated of Rs 54.74 lac by an online fraudster.

As per details, the victim Lavina Stephanie Crasto (42) got acquainted with Mihial Nilgen on Facebook on February 2, 2024. He allegedly introduced himself as a military officer of Germany. Later, they became friends by chatting on Whatsapp continuously.

The accused Mihial promised to send a gift to complainant Lavina. Accordingly, on February 15, Lavina got a call from a person saying that he is calling from the Delhi parcel office and stated that a parcel containing jewellery and Euro currency notes had arrived from Germany.

The person asked Lavina to pay a sum of Rs 54.74 lac in several tranches towards the parcel charges, money landing certificate and the customs certificate.

The victim then sent the money through Google Pay to various bank accounts suggested by the stranger. However, once the money was sent the mobile number of the caller who introduced himself as an officer at the Delhi parcel office was found switched off and the main accused Mihial also cut off all contacts.

A case in this connection has been filed with CEN police station.

After all the info on media regarding the same, I dont understand why ladies fall prey for this scam. Why would someon send you such an expensive gift? You have not met this person . Started chatting on the 2nd and you get a parcel on the 15th . That is a big red flag hope they catch this scammer who is operating from India. He could be living 50 kms away!!
