Udupi, Mar 18: Locals of Badanidiyoor area and representatives of Karavli Yuvaka Mandala, Badanidiyoor have objected to the development of a luxurious resort by a private company.
In a public meeting organized under the leadership of Karavali Yuvaka Mandala, founding president Shivanand Suvarna said, “A private company is planning to build a resort at survey number 118. The individuals associated with the company even threatened us when we started to fill up the government land for making a playground and garden. Traditional fishing has been conducted here in this region for a very long time. An investment of about Rs 50 crore is being put here by the company. This resort will eventually have pubs and bars which will in turn harm our culture and we will not let this happen."
Suresh Bangera, local fisherman said, “This area was used for traditional fishing by us and we conduct fishing activities in this area in non-seasons. If a resort is built here. it will obstruct the entry points for our finishing activities."
Ramesh Tingalaya, president of Thottam Sarva Dharma Samithi said, “There are around 50-60 houses in government land here. They have not been given land rights still. But capitalists businessmen are able to do their work without any restrictions."
Karavali Yuvaka Mandal president Nagendra Mendon, women's wing president Nalini Sadashiva, Ramappa Salyan, leaders Dayananda Suvarna, Gangadhara Maindan, Gopal Karkera, former gram panchayat president Suresh Shetty, Congress leaders Prasadraj Kanchan, Krishnamurthy Acharya and others were present.
