Puttur: Polytechnic Student Dies at Building Demolition Site

Puttur, Oct 1: A student studying in a polytechnic died while working part time at a building demolition site in the city on Thursday September 29.

The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Prashant Kumar, son of Kukkady Balakrishna Gowda, residing at Aryapu village in Sampya gram panchayat.

Prashant was a second year student of mechanical branch of Karnataka Polytechnic (KPT) in Bantwal.  He was engaged in building demolition work at Mahalasa Building on Thursday night.  He died when the wall caved in. 

Prashant, who sustained serious injuries, was moved to a hospital. But he breathed his last before being treated. He was brilliant at studies, and opted to work as casual labourer because of the family’s poor financial condition. He was working with some relatives at the site to earn something.

Puttur town police registered a case in this regard.
