Mangaluru: Healthy society built only through harmonious programmes – Basheer Madani

Mangaluru, Mar 22: “Teachings of all religions are on the path of truth. They strive for the upliftment of mankind and not its destruction. However, some vested interests are using the religion for their selfish motives and creating hatred in society. In order to keep such powers at bay more and more harmonious programmes should be held,” said Basheer Madani, Sunni scholar and district vice president of SYS.

Basheer spoke at the Sauharda Iftar Koota-2024 organized under the joint aegis of St Mother Theresa thinkers’ forum and Dakshina Kannada street vendors’ welfare board at the Town Hall of the city under the tag line ‘Preethi Haradali Ellede’.

Speaking on the occasion, CSI Karnataka southern province bishop Rev Hemachandra Kumar said, “Iftar Koota is really a celebration in which communal harmony is conveyed. In addition, it is also a symbol of togetherness. Forum of this kind needs to be used to respect one another.”

Social thinker Dr K Prakash said, “India is at the 114th spot among 126 nations of the world with regards to the hunger index. In addition to hunger, inequality is increasing in our country and harmony is reducing.”

The programme was presided over by Roy Castelino, president of St Mother Theresa thinkers’ forum. B A Nasir Luckystar, president of district Wakf advisory committee, Stany Alvares, president of Konkani Sahitya Academy, B K Imtiyaz, honorary president of street vendors’ association, Mohammed Mustafa, president, Harish Poojary, chief secretary were present on the dais.

Chief secretary of St Mother Theresa thinkers’ forum Sunil Bajal did the introduction and compered the event.
