Kundapur, Mar 25: A tragic incident occurred when a woman fell to her death from the terrace of an apartment building located on the site of the old Geetanjali talkies on the main road in the city.

The deceased has been identified as Laxmi Pratap Nayak, a resident of the apartment building. Laxmi had gone to the terrace around 7 pm on Sunday to retrieve coconuts that were left for drying. Unfortunately, she accidentally stepped onto a fibre sheet installed on the terrace, causing it to give way, and she fell onto the elevator below. Due to the severe injuries sustained to her head and hands, she succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

Personnel from the Kundapur police station, upon receiving the information, faced difficulties in retrieving the body which was stuck in the elevator area. They had to cut the iron rods fixed around the elevator to bring up the mortal remains.

A case has been registered in the city police station regarding this incident. The body of the deceased has been kept in the mortuary of the government hospital. Laxmi, the deceased, was the wife of auditor Pratap Nayak from the city and is survived by two sons.

Got a shock to hear this.Cant understand how come officials give permission to such builders and permission to elevators for such construction map?Even ususally officials must check up before they hand over the new building to owners.USUALLY! but in money is first and everything in India.People too dont give importance to buy a flat about its structrure?May her soul rest in peace.Arrest the builder and the elevator constuction person and put them inside.Even terrace had no boundry?Heartfelt sympathy to family.

In a third world country, where safety does not take prime importance. Wake up people, instead of checking whether building has gym, swimming pool & other amenities - Better to check safety measures. How builders get completion certificates without adhering to basic safety measures.

This incident is an eye opener to the builders, licensing authorities and the public in general, who buy flats in such unsafe buildings! Strict action must be taken on the builders who take short cuts to save some money, which leads to such mishaps!

OMG! Fiber sheet to cover the elevator cutout on the terrace?? IMO; THE ARCHITECT AND BUILDER OF THIS GREAT BUILDING ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS CALAMITY! IF NOT HER, SOMEBODY ELSE WOULD HAVE STEPPED ON THE FIBER SHEET AND MET THE CREATOR! MAY HER SOUL REST IN ETERNAL PEACE!!

Murder case must be registered against the Builder, Fire Officer, Electrical Inspector and the Elevator Vendor. Builder- For Not covering the elevator shaft . Fire Officer- For issuing NOC without inspecting the Elevator shaft. Electrical Inspector- For issuing the Elevator Licence for an incomplete installation. Elevator Vendor- For Commissioning the elevator without basic pre-requisites.

Yes bro; but, in third world countries please don't expect much action! In fact, all the tenants of this building should get together and file a multicrore class action suit against the builder... and all related authorities as parties to the same....for putting each residents life at extreme risk if at all they had used the terrace, and bring them to their knees....
