Media Release

Moodbidri, Mar 25: In a momentous event marking Palm Sunday evening, Corpus Christi Church in Moodbidri made history by conducting a live enactment of the Way of the Cross on March 24. Set against the backdrop of the church's plot near papermill, parishioners vividly portrayed the agonizing journey of Jesus Christ to Calvary.

This groundbreaking initiative, a first in the annals of Moodbidri church, witnessed the participation of 32 dedicated parishioners who brought the narrative to life with poignant performances. The script, meticulously crafted to capture the essence of Christ's suffering, was penned by Fr Onil D’Souza, the parish priest of Corpus Christi Church.

Adding spiritual depth to the event, Fr Walter D’Souza, the parish priest of Alangar Church, delivered a moving homily on the profound significance of Christ's sufferings, resonating with the audience gathered to witness the enactment.

Under the guidance of Fr Ronald D’Souza, the parish priest of Gantalkatte church, and Alwyn Menezes, the enactment was expertly directed, ensuring a seamless portrayal of the solemn journey. Jason Pereira from Shirtady provided the evocative background music, enhancing the emotional resonance of the performance.

The leadership of Vincent Mascarehnas, alongside Janet Fernandes, John Barboza, and Anita Rodrigues, was instrumental in coordinating the event, ensuring its smooth execution and profound impact on the audience.

The Corpus Christi Church choir members lent their voices to the occasion, enriching the atmosphere with hymns and melodies that echoed the themes of redemption and sacrifice.

Around 1000 people in and around Moodbidri gathered to witness this event.

The live Way of the Cross not only served as a poignant reminder of the central tenets of the Christian faith but also fostered a sense of community and reverence among the parishioners of Corpus Christi Church and the wider Moodbidri community.
