Bantwal, Oct 10: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, said that the state government is committed to provide quality education even at the college level, and that the government will strive towards this end by sanctioning primary schools, high schools, and colleges in rural areas and by providing proper infrastructure and other facilities to them.

He was speaking after inaugurating a new building of Bantwal government first Grade College, constructed at Kamaje near B C Road at a cost of Rs 75 lac. He said that the quality of education has risen because of healthy competition between government and aided schools. He promised to release grants towards developing the college further. He revealed that a proposal to develop Bantwal town at a cost of ten crore rupees has received in-principle nod of the government.

There was confusion for some time, after local MLA, district Congress president, and former minister, B Ramanath Rai, who was to preside over the function, felt that he had been sidelined. The function started as soon as Palemar arrived. Rai reached the venue when the inauguration was completed and welcome address was about to conclude. Protesting against this maltreatment, Rai chose to sit among the audience, and refused to come to the dais. Realizing the seriousness of the issue, Palemar and MLC, Capt Ganesh Karnik, approached him and convinced him to preside over the function.

Speaking after taking the chair, Rai said that the minister for higher education had informed him that a sum of seven crore rupees has been sanctioned for the construction of a new building of the government polytechnic here.

The computer laboratory of the college was initiated by chairman of Coastal Development Authority, B Nagaraj Shetty, MLC, Capt Ganesh Karnik, held consultations with the students. On the occasion, Mahabala Shetty, contractor, was felicitated.

Local municipal president, Dinesh Bhandary, councillor, Bhaskar Kamaje, Ashwani Kumar Rai, and Prof H R Nataraj Aras, were present.
