Mangaluru, May 12: A complaint has been registered at the Bajpe police station regarding the theft of 26,342 Saudi Riyals (approximately Rs 5.88 lac) from the bag belonging to the leader of a 35-member team that departed from the city's international airport for the Umrah pilgrimage.

The wife of Ahmed Iqbal, the leader of the Umrah pilgrim team, filed a complaint alleging that someone stole the currency from her husband's bag before the team reached Jeddah.

Ahmed Iqbal and the other 35 members arrived at Jeddah airport on May 1. Upon checking the bag containing the currency, they discovered that it was missing.

In response to the incident, Anupam Agarwal, the city police commissioner, stated, “One round of CCTV check has been conducted at Mangalore Airport along with CISF. Here, the bag was loaded intact. Further investigation needs to be carried out at Mumbai and Jeddah airports, as the victims discovered the missing amount only upon receiving the bag at the final destination. It could have been lost at either of the other two airports, Mumbai or Jeddah.”
