Pune, Oct 15: A Bangalore-based techie, who allegedly set ablaze her former beau and his fiancee at their apartment here on Thursday October 13, has been arrested by the Maharashtra police.
Anushree Kundra, a 30-year-old software engineer, has been booked for murder.
The Maharashtra police said that Anushree's former boyfriend Nimesh Sinha Rameshnandan Prasad, 27, has sustained about 10% of injuries while his fiancée Juhi Abhayunandan Prasad has suffered 98% injuries.
The couple had recently got engaged. Nimesh is an IT professional and Juhi is a Delhi-based lawyer.
Senior police inspector Bajirao Mohite said that Nimesh had told them that he knew Anushree for over six years. He was reportedly staying with Anushree in Gurgaon three years back before he moved to Pune. Juhi, in her statement, said that she was aware of Nimesh's past with Anushree.
It is learnt that Nimesh's parents had opposed to Anushree's and Nimesh's relationship. Juhi's marriage with Nimesh, was in fact, fixed by Nimesh's parents themselves. This apparently angered Anushree.
Juhi informed the police that Nimesh's mother had called her up on October 12 asking her to rush to Pune as she had learnt from Nimesh that Anushree was with him.
On arriving by flight to Pune on Wednesday evening, Juhi found Anushree in his apartment. The two girls had a heated argument over their marriage issue.
Inspector Mohite said, "Anushree had later told them that she would not come in the way of their marriage. She even advised them to rest in their bedroom but requested them not to lock the door from inside as she would leave the apartment in some time."
Nimesh informed the police that later on in the night Anushree snuck into their bedroom and poured an inflammable substance on them and before they could even react she set them on fire. She then locked the flat's door and fled. Hearing their cries, Nimesh's neighbours broke into the apartment and came to their rescue."
Juhi is now said to be in a critical condition and is kept under observation in the ICU, while Nimesh is in a stable condition. Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who is related to Juhi, visited the hospital on Friday October 14.
