Udupi: 'Waterfall' emerges in Santhekatte underpass construction site,  picture goes viral

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD)

Udupi, May 22: With the onset of pre-monsoon rains in Udupi, concerns have surfaced at the Santhekatte underpass construction site due to water erosion. The first rainfall has inundated the area with sludge, exacerbating the situation at the site.

Rainwater, lacking proper drainage infrastructure, is directly impacting the underpass area, raising fears among locals of potential structural instability. A photograph capturing the scene, depicting a makeshift "waterfall," has been circulated widely on social media, with some making sarcastic remarks about it becoming Udupi's newest picnic spot.

Criticism has also been directed towards the former MP of Udupi–Chikkamagaluru, reflecting public frustration with the perceived lack of oversight and precautionary measures.

The absence of adequate gutter facilities has exacerbated the situation, prompting concerns about potential collapses if heavy rainfall persists. Urgent action is needed to address the drainage issues and reinforce safety measures to prevent further erosion and ensure the stability of the underpass construction site.

Most brainless and unscientific plan and execution. Send enginners to Dubai and let them learn how to complete such projects within six months and high quality. But who will oil pandu's??

Absolutely this project is the result of substandard work, there seems to be high chances of closure of this underpass due to improper drainage facility, during the upcoming monsoon season. Looks like 2nd "Niagara falls" would be at Santhekatte.

People should understand that this particular project has become very complicated to execute due to the fact that it is located at a very busy junction with no option to bypass the traffic through alterative roads. Moreover local's do not want to co-operate. They just want to take shortcuts to connect the highway by risking the lives of others. This has ended up in such a mess only because locals opposed the underpass at the behest of few selfish businessmen and politicians during the initial widening of the highway. I do not find any fault with the contractor who is executing the project,

One illegal bakery building ruined whole Santhekatte development and all the accidents and deaths too because of this. Now Santhkatte small businesses have no business because of this karmakand.
