Mangaluru: Dist BJP chief urges police, Cong to revoke case against Sharan Pumpwell

Mangaluru, May 31: "I urge the police department and the Congress party to reconsider the case filed against VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell. If not revoked, we will be compelled, under the guidance of our seniors, to stage a massive protest," stated District BJP president Sathish Kumpala.

Addressing media persons on Friday, May 31, at the BJP office, Kumpala voiced his concerns. "Today, a case has been lodged against VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell by the Dakshina Kannada district police. The Congress-led government has persistently targeted BJP members, filing baseless charges against Hindu youths and pressuring them to relocate. The tranquility of Dakshina Kannada is under threat due to the actions of the Congress government. Even in the Kankanady mosque incident, they refused to acknowledge their wrongdoing. We merely stated our intent to gather people, yet to no avail."

He continued, "We acknowledge the police department's initiative in filing a suo motu case. However, it's disheartening to witness the department's ideological shift. Sharan Pumpwell has been a dedicated member of our party, and we implore the authorities to retract the charges against him, similar to the swift action taken against those who prayed on the road. The independence of the police force must be preserved. Out of the six MLAs, three have faced unjust charges. It's evident that the police are functioning under the directives of the Congress party. Should the case against Sharan Pumpwell not be rescinded, the BJP is prepared to stage a massive protest. I reiterate my plea for the immediate withdrawal of these charges."

When questioned about the revocation of cases under their governance, Kumpala responded, "We have initiated very few cases, and it's worth noting that a case was filed and withdrawn within a mere 30 minutes, a remarkable feat in the country."

Regarding the Gaurakshak cases lodged during BJP rule, Kumpala defended their actions, stating, "We have retracted all feasible cases. The Congress government's actions are contrary to the Constitution, and we stand in solidarity with our party members. Our commitment to this cause remains unwavering."

Nitin Kumar, Premananda Shetty, Nandan Mallya, Jagadeesh Shenoy, and others were also present.
