Sullia, Jun 1: Puttur Subdivision Assistant Commissioner (AC) Jubin Mohapatra has directed the administrative and temple officials of Kukke Sri Subramanya Kshethra to take necessary actions to prevent inconvenience to devotees due to a shortage of lodging facilities.
Recently, a photo of several devotees sleeping on the footpath of Kukke Car Street during the summer holidays went viral on social media. The image sparked criticism regarding the inadequate lodging facilities at the temple, which forced devotees to sleep on the streets. Netizens questioned the lack of accommodations at a temple that generates the highest revenue among temples in the state.
Speaking to the media, AC Jubin Mohapatra stated, “If devotees at Kukke are unable to find lodging facilities, arrangements have been made for them to sleep in the temple’s kitchen. This announcement was made over the public address system. In the future, these instructions will be announced more loudly and frequently. Additionally, temple staff and security guards have been instructed to prevent devotees from sleeping on the footpath and direct them to the temple kitchen instead.”
He added, “The master plan for the development of the temple includes provisions for building lodging facilities for devotees. Moreover, we have plans to construct a new building. However, due to the current Election Code of Conduct, no immediate actions can be taken. These plans will be implemented soon.”
