Udupi, Jun 7: The Congress party in Udupi district, which has been consistently facing significant defeats, is witnessing growing discontent among its workers. The recent visit of the state's home minister, Dr G Parameshwara, on June 6, has further fuelled their anger.
Dr Parameshwara participated in a pre-scheduled program and later visited the Kollur temple before returning to Bengaluru. However, he did not meet with local Congress workers, instead only meeting with a few leaders. This has caused considerable frustration among the grassroots workers of the party.
Adding to the dissatisfaction, it was noted that the home minister did not visit the district Congress office, which was only a few minutes away from his scheduled programme venue. This oversight has been a point of contention for local party members.
Congress workers have taken to social media to express their disappointment, stating that if senior leaders merely pose for photos with other leaders without informing or engaging with party workers, it serves no purpose in strengthening the party organization.
Since the 2013 assembly elections, the Congress has not achieved any notable success in Udupi district. The party faced defeats in the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the 2023 assembly elections, and even the Udupi municipal by-elections. Workers are voicing their frustration that the Congress high command has not given the district the attention it needs, exacerbating the party's struggles in the region.
