Traffic speed radar guns introduced in Mangaluru to curb speeding, crime

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 20: The traffic police of Mangaluru commissionerate have been equipped with traffic speed radar guns to crack down on speeding motorists and address crime within the city. Officials and staff will undergo training on the operation of these guns this month.

These radar guns are equipped with interceptor technology and will play a crucial role in both preventing crime and enforcing speed limits rigorously. Additionally, three cameras have been deployed across the city to monitor traffic violations.

Dinesh Kumar, DCP of crime and traffic, explained, "Speed limit boards will be installed on every road in the city. Vehicles exceeding these limits will be monitored and fined using the radar gun. Initially, the radar gun will be tested on highways before being deployed within city limits."

Instant speed detectors have been installed at Jeppinamogaru, Kuntikan, and Kottara, capturing images of over-speeding vehicles. Automated notices will be issued from the central automation center.

Regarding speed limits, vehicles with nine or fewer seats can travel at a maximum speed of 100 km per hour on national and state highways with road dividers and more than four lanes. Within corporation, city municipality, and town municipality limits, the speed limit is 70 km per hour.

Vehicles with more than nine seats are permitted to travel at a maximum speed of 90 km per hour on state and national highways with road dividers and more than four lanes. On all other roads, the speed limit is 60 km per hour.

Goods vehicles and motorcycles should not exceed 80 km per hour on state and national highways and roads with more than four lanes. The speed limit for these vehicles on other roads is 60 km per hour.

Three-wheelers have a maximum speed limit of 50 km per hour on national and state highways with more than four lanes, as well as on all other roads.

A trial run of the speed radar gun is scheduled for June 24 by the traffic department, after which fines will be issued to violators.

The traffic police' should emphasize on teaching PPL about road rules like fast moving vehicles on the right side..slow on the left...not overtaking from left... specially the trucks are a nuisance in highways..then the only thing left is to drive zig zag from one lane to other causing accidents🙏.. people have forgotten the basic road rules...and yes pls teach about high n low beam at night

90% of drivers in India don't know the basics traffic rules. Would any one expect them to follow traffic rules ? Traffic police and RTO officials are waiting at the end of the one way road instead of entry of the road. They are bothered only about their kimbala (bribe). 4 lane roads are in Mangalore for name sake. On one lane each other both sides are used for parking. Most of the buildings parking spaces are not used parking. 95% of the commercial buildings doesn't have parking space. MCC is in dee sleep by taking bribes from builders.

These RIKSHAW AND BIKERS go neither in left lane or right lane ,they go in middle of the road , blocking others , I don't think this speed radar will be of any use. The disqualified RTO is issuing license to uneducated people.

Reminds of the Covid-19 temperature guns being freely used by pvt security guards!! Imho; practically these AI techniques used in advanced countries cannot be extrapolated to third world places where there is hardly any adherence by motorists to traffic sense and safety norms with haphazard roads and .....! A casual look one can see numerous heavily loaded mini trucks openly shunting construction materials of various shapes and sizes freely projecting out dangerously both in the front and rearside of the vehicles with no objections from anybody, youngsters speeding recklessly w/o helmets on hi powered two wheelers...etc etc. 😳!! Please note that this is a very personal opinion based on my observations; kindly do not believe in anybody's personal opinion!

Real Traffic rule breakers are City Bus drivers. These private City bus services in Mangalore is a real mess and curse for Mangalore city. Private bus services must be banned and govt city bus should be introduced in Mangalore like Bangalore. They do not hesitate ride anything. Worst experience one could have. Police never bothered about these culprits.

Our police are least bothered about people driving/riding on the wrong side of the road. In surathkal near bus stand, the motorist drive into on coming traffic in front of Traffic police and they still don't stop them.

As far as i know Mangalore traffic police come into picture only to block general public vehicles and roads when any corrupt politician visits city for any marriage or timepass. Apart from that fearing poor 2 wheeler riders for random things.

I quote from the Daijiworld news: Dinesh Kumar, DCP of crime and traffic, explained, "Speed limit boards will be installed on every road in the city. Unquote. Speed limit sign boards should be clearly visible to commuters. The sign boards should not be blocked from the advertising agencies bill boards. In Mangalore we are seeing plenty of Advertising agencies bill boards and politicians cutouts in every nooks and corners of Mangalore City. MCC has no control over advertising billboards and politicians propaganda cutouts.

Tinted glasses ...... .Attention should be given to Harsh , Bright n Blinking lights ..a real menace while driving during Night time.... Pls ensure Zebra n Pedestrian Crossings are Highlighted.. Most Importantly......Warning boards positioned atleast 50 meters before the Barricades location....( as if Safety is the job of only the Vehicle owners...?????!!!)...
