Mangaluru, July 12: As many as 35,160 pending traffic violation cases have been cleared in Mangaluru under the state government's 50% fine concession scheme, with motorists paying a total of Rs 92.43 lakh in penalties, city police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said.

Following the state government's order, a 50% discount was offered on pending traffic violation fines from June 21 to July 10. The Mangaluru city police commissionerate launched a special drive during this period to encourage vehicle owners and riders to settle long-pending cases.

Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that during the campaign, motorists and drivers cleared fines in 35,160 pending cases by making payments either online or by personally visiting police stations. Following the payment of penalties amounting to Rs 92,43,400, the cases were officially closed.

Of the total cases settled, 18,792 were violations detected through AI-enabled cameras installed for traffic monitoring, while 16,368 cases were registered after police officers and personnel spotted violations during their duty hours.

224 driving licences face suspension

In a separate road safety enforcement drive, the Mangaluru city police commissionerate has initiated action against 224 drivers involved in serious accident cases and major traffic violations during 2026.

The driving licences (DLs) of these motorists were seized, and recommendations have been submitted to the concerned Regional Transport Officer (RTO) offices seeking suspension of their licences.

The move is aimed at improving road safety and ensuring stricter enforcement of traffic rules across the city. The police commissioner said 137 driving licences have already been suspended, while the remaining cases are currently under the suspension process.
