Mangaluru: Coastal Karnataka to experience heavy rainfall; IMD issues red alert

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jun 19: Coastal Karnataka is expected to witness isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall between June 20 and June 22, 2024, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has issued a red alert for the region, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 204.4 mm over the specified period.

The forecast suggests that districts along the coast, including Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada, should brace for significant precipitation. The IMD has advised residents and authorities to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the heavy rains.

In addition to Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe are also expected to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall during the same period. The red alert for these regions similarly predicts rainfall in the range of 64.5 mm to 204.4 mm.

Authorities are urged to ensure that emergency response systems are in place and that the public is informed about potential weather-related disruptions. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea during this period due to rough sea conditions.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and adhere to advisories issued by local authorities to ensure safety during this period of intense rainfall.

Yet another false prediction by IMD. From yellow and orange alert now it is red alert. For heaven's sake just do not bother to predict, let it rain when it has to rain. Red alert is of the heat waves of the bright shining red Sun rays & not of water. It is time all department, specially Forest Dept and our educated citizens to seriously think of planting more trees and ensure we have enough rains. By the passing every year, rains are becoming scanty and rare. All your previous predictions have been a laughing stock, because they were all proven wrong.

@Eulalia; exactly 😂; don't understand whether to laugh or 😭; in reality there is a big shortfall in rain 🌧️ for the month of June, and this agency's periodic predictions have been totally wayward despite boasting of some very advanced weather prediction equipment; again 😔😔 this only happens in third world places🤔🙏🙏

Please IMD, predict there will be no rains as your forecasts are always getting wrong. At least such predictions will bring relentless downpour, which are awaited this monsoon season.

Hope rain water harvesting systems have been installed in many homes. We only wake up in summer. Now there is rain but are we conserving water now ??

Probably the nth time prediction of rainfall, earlier predictions all of which have gone wayward; this time specific flag colour has not been specified though; BTW, on the face of it there appears to be a pretty big deficiency of rainfall until June as compared to yearly averages 😞😔🙏

Mangis are still in hibernation mode; majority are very busy organising and attending social, religious, political and other related functions; some are awake but not bothered for reasons well known to them; only a miniscule amount are fully awake and concious; the frog marriages, rolling on wasted food, fasting, day and night prayers etc etc will start soon 😞😜😉🤣

IMD is always predicting wrong. Mangalore is dry to the bone even though we are approaching June end. Feels like summer and we are predicting rains where there are no clouds. What a Joke !
