Mumbai, Jun 21: Ameera Shah was just 21 and earning a lucrative salary in the US when she decided to return to India. Today, she is the driving force behind the country's largest healthcare company.
Though Ameera comes from a family of medical doctors, she did not study medicine. However, her shrewd business tactics transformed her father’s single pathology lab into an Rs 8500 crore company.
Ameera Shah is the managing director and promoter of Metropolis Healthcare. The company is headquartered in Mumbai and operates in seven countries. It is a chain of diagnostic centers.
Ameera is the daughter of renowned doctors, Dr Sushil Shah and Dr Duru Shah. Despite her family background, Ameera chose finance and management as her profession. She graduated in Economics from HR College of Commerce in Mumbai and obtained her master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin in the US.
Ameera began her career with the financial giant Goldman Sachs in the USA. However, she always felt the urge to do something more than just working for others. So, she gave up her job and returned to India in 2001 to take over her father’s business.
Ameera introduced technology into her father’s diagnostics business, which was mostly manual. She took a huge risk by securing an Rs 600 crore personal loan in 2015 to buy out the shares of private individuals in her company. She climbed the ladder of success step by step.
According to the Hurun list of wealthy women, Ameera had assets worth Rs 5950 crore in 2022. The courage and boldness shown by Ameera in quitting a highly paid job in the US and developing her father’s business into an international chain is an inspiration to all budding entrepreneurs.
