Udupi, Jun 28: A Miyawaki-style forest project was launched at Hanumanthanagar primary and high school in Nittoor, Udupi, under the auspices of Choson Generation Trust and MGM College’s National Service Scheme (NSS) units.
MLA Yashpal Suvarna, addressing the audience, praised the plantation campaign for its environmental significance. Mahesh Shenoy, in his introductory note, emphasized the importance of developing a Miyawaki forest.
The programme commenced with Prof Lakshminarayan Karanth, principal of MGM College, planting a sapling. Abigail S Anchan, managing trustee of Choson Generation Trust, welcomed the gathering and extended the vote of thanks. Sucheeth Kotian, NSS officer, presided over the event. Suchith Kotian hosted the event.
The Miyawaki forest, named ‘Serenity Forest’, is being developed on a compact plot in Hanumantha Nagar, Nittoor. NSS volunteers from MGM College, along with school children, planted around 194 saplings.
Notable attendees included environmentalists Alfred Vincent Monis and Avinash Kamath,Ganesh Autocars owner S Vasanth Kumar, Prabhakar Anchan, Ida Anchan, Molly D’Souza, the headmistress of the primary school, Mushrath Jahan and NSS officer Rekha N Chandra were present on the occasion.
