Mangaluru, Jun 28: A clash between police and protestors led to the arrest of several BJP leaders and activists during a protest against the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government at the Clock Tower on Friday, June 28. The protest was held to denounce alleged corruption and administrative failures.
A heated exchange of words occurred between the police and protestors as officers were deployed at the Clock Tower. DCP Siddarth Goyal urged protestors to make way for vehicular movement. When protestors tried to go beyond the barricade, DCP Goyal warned them of a potential lathi charge.
Despite the warning, a few protestors barged through the barricade and moved towards the DC office. Former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Bhageerathi Murulya, MLC Prathap Simha Nayak, and other leaders were detained.
Before being detained, former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel addressed the protestors, stating, "The Congress came to power after assuring guarantees to the public, but now they are involved in corruption and looting the public. There has not been a single achievement in the last 14 months of its tenure, and the chief minister must resign."
