Udupi, Jun 29: Trinity Central School, Perampalli, organized ‘Kesard Onji Dina’, a day filled with fun and frolic at the muddy fields of Bandasale, Perampalli, on June 29.
Aravind Bolar, a multi-language actor, remarked on the occasion, "In the past, people spent every day in the mud, but now it is just one day. I’m delighted that the school is organizing this event to teach children about the origins of rice and our traditions. The mud in the field has numerous health benefits. Mud therapy is popular in massage centers for its benefits. I am pleased to see a traditional Tulu theme decorating the stage. Initially, the water feels cold, but once we step into the field, we experience its warmth."
Yashpal Suvarna, MLA Udupi, spoke about the benefits of 'Kesard Onji Dina’, saying, "In today’s world, children are often limited to books. Events like this bring them out of that realm and help them learn about our traditions. Extracurricular activities are crucial for students, as they teach them about the real world. During my school days, no such events were arranged, but Trinity School is taking a commendable step. I thank the institution for organizing this event."
Fr Vishal Lobo, parish priest of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Perampalli, highlighted the programme's significance, saying, "Today’s event will teach us the value of our environment and our responsibility towards it. Technological advancement has distanced us from nature. There is a need to raise environmental awareness among children."
Fr John Alwyn Dias, president of CEB, congratulated the management committee, saying, "This is a day to rediscover and reconnect with our culture. We honour the work of our farmers and the value of hard work. Parents and teachers should teach children the importance of labour and gratitude towards Mother Earth. Let children appreciate the hands of their parents."
Yashpal Suvarna, Aravind Bolar, and Fr Vishal Lobo were felicitated at the event. During the ceremony, a portrait of Aravind Bolar, painted by a student, was presented to him.
Various sports activities were organized, including volleyball, throw ball, 50 and 100-meter races for different age groups, tug-of-war, musical chairs, breaking the pot, a parent-child race, backward running, a couple's race, palm leaf weaving, ‘bomb in the city’ race, pole race, and treasure hunt.
The programme was inaugurated by actor Aravind Bolar and commenced with a prayer rendered by the school teachers' choir. The event concluded with a prize distribution to honour all the winners.
Smitha Ammana hosted the event. Benita D’Souza, a faculty member, welcomed the gathering, and Reshma, another faculty member, proposed the vote of thanks.
The event was attended by Fr Cyril Roshan, Fr Dominic Sunil Lobo, principal Fr Ravi Rajesh Serrao, vice-principal and administrator Magdalena Lewis, academic coordinator, and others.
