Mangaluru, Jun 29: MLC Ivan D'Souza expressed sharp criticism towards the central government for its handling of NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) irregularities, stating that they have failed miserably to secure the future of students and provide justice in light of the recent controversies.

Addressing the media on Saturday, June 29, Ivan D'Souza remarked, "The central government has not taken any action nor issued a single statement regarding the NEET irregularities. It is a total failure of the government as no one is willing to take responsibility."

Ivan D'Souza further proposed that Karnataka should consider withdrawing from the NEET system. "As a state, we need to come out of the NEET system. In the upcoming session, I will submit a resolution for Karnataka to opt out of NEET," he stated.

Regarding the natural disaster response in the district, Ivan D'Souza mentioned that he has been in discussions with deputy commissioner (DC) Mullai Muhilan about the measures taken during the monsoon season. "The district treasury has Rs 17 crore, and every taluk has Rs 50 lac in its treasury. Previously, there were restrictions on releasing funds. I have discussed with the DC the need to release the required funds immediately for this monsoon. Preventive measures are a must. The district administration has already identified houses in danger zones and is relocating them promptly. The district administration has also assured that they will remain vigilant to tackle the monsoon and take all necessary preventive measures," he added.

Congress leaders Vikas Shetty, Alister D'Cunha, and Bhaskar Rao were also present.
