Byndoor, Jul 3: In an unexpected incident on Tuesday, strong winds and rain blew away the roof of a hotel located near the Shiroor border, leading to substantial damages worth lacs of rupees.

The sudden gust of wind caused significant damage due to the open area with few surrounding houses. The forceful winds swept away the roof of the hotel situated near the highway, scattering steel sheets and rafters onto the ground. The hotel's interior also suffered damage, with a ceiling fan getting dislodged and falling.

Fortunately, the hotel was not operational at the time, as it primarily serves food, and no staff or customers were present. Consequently, there were no injuries reported. The flying steel sheets hit an electric line, damaging several poles. Due to low traffic on the highway at that time, there was no significant disruption or accidents reported.

Following the incident, officials from MESCOM and the Shiroor village accountant, Vijay Kumar, inspected the site to assess the extent of the damage and plan necessary repairs.
