Kundapur: Fishermen perform traditional 'Samudra Pooje' ceremony at Maravante breakwater

Kundapura, Jul 3: 'Samudra Pooje' (sea worship) was performed on Wednesday, July 3, in the morning near the breakwater at Maravante, by the Sea Worship Committee of Sri Rama Mandira Meenugara Seva Samiti.

The fishermen offered special prayers in the presence of deities at Sri Rama Mandira, Sri Gangadhara Eshwara Temple, and Varaha Swamy Temple. At Karavali Mahabobbery Temple, a Ganahoma ceremony was performed, followed by a special puja at the sea shore of breakwater with milk, coconut, fruits, and turmeric kumkum.

Under the leadership of priest Nagendra Bhat, the religious rituals of sea worship were performed. The fishermen prayed for a prosperous fishing season ahead, safety during their sea journeys, and protection from natural calamities, wishing for peace and happiness in their lives. They also offered prayers to the sea god and deities.

Before the sea worship, the fishermen offered special prayers to their clan deity Shri Sharadamba at Sringeri, seeking blessings amid chanting of mantras.

Suresh Kharvi, president of Sri Rama Mandira Meenugara Seva Samiti, Shekhar Kharvi, executive director, former president Vasudeva Kharvi, and Venkataramana Kharvi, co-operative society president, along with committee members and fishermen were present for the rituals.
