Mangaluru, Jul 5: Health and district in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada, Dinesh Gundu Rao, expressed concern about the rising cases of dengue in the region.
Gundu Rao said, “The first job is to control the spots where larvae are produced. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, which needs to be controlled. The public is not taking this matter seriously, and water is accumulating in front of houses. We will not allow unscientific construction and take action against those who construct buildings without proper drainage facilities. We need a big grant to tackle this problem and we will look into solving it."”
He assured that arrangements for suitable medical treatment for dengue have been made and emphasized the need to prevent fatalities. “If private hospitals overcharge for dengue testing, stringent action will be taken against such establishments. We may even cancel their licenses,” he said.
Regarding the hill collapses in various parts of Dakshina Kannada, Gundu Rao said, “We dig into hills to construct buildings, and since it is done unscientifically, the hills collapse during rains. This is a human-created issue. We should get grants to build retaining walls, and I will consider it.”
