Mangaluru/ Udupi, Jul 8: Police have received information indicating that the notorious ‘Chaddi Gang’ thieves are active in the Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi districts.
This gang, composed of thieves from Madhya Pradesh, Hyderabad, and Rajasthan, has been involved in thefts in these twin districts previously. Police now suspect that the same group is responsible for a recent theft at a house in Kodikal.
Members of the Chaddi Gang are known for their distinctive attire, wearing shorts, vests, and tying cloths on their heads while carrying weapons at their waists. According to police, this gang usually becomes active when residents are in deep sleep during the rainy season.
In the theft at Kodikal, CCTV footage shows the gang entering the house around 2:04 am after cutting open the window grills. Five thieves, dressed in shorts and holding torches, entered the house at 2:04 am and left at 3:42 am. One of them was carrying a bag. The targeted house is located beside the road, with other houses nearby. A vehicle passed by as the thieves were exiting; they paused to let it pass before crossing the road. The footage also shows one of the thieves throwing a stone at a barking dog.
Police noted that the dress code of the thieves matches that of the Chaddi Gang. Two houses were burgled in Balkunje Neeralike on Thursday night, and it is suspected that the same gang may have committed those robberies as well.
Police have requested the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals. Residents are also advised to lock their houses properly and keep valuables in bank safe deposit lockers.
