Mumbai, Oct 30: The newly-formed Konkan Welfare Association at Our Lady of Good Counsel parish, Sion, was inaugurated in a function held at the parish hall on Saturday October 29.
Sion parish priest Fr Leslie Dominic D’Cunha inaugurated the newly-formed Association.
Veteran Konkani singer Harryboy was conferred with the title of ‘Kala Chakravarti'. Joe D'Souza, Sion was also honoured with the title 'Konkani Ratna'.
Wilfy musical concert convener Henry D’Silva felicitated ace Konkani singers Meena Rebimbus and Vishwas Rebimbus on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr D’Cunha said that Christians are known for service to humanity, and the newly-formed Association that has the objective of uplifting the downtrodden will be of succor to the least of society.
Fr D’Cunha distributed dresses and financial assistance to about 15 destitute women on the occasion.
Mumbai Pradesh Women’s Congress unit president Janet Lawrence D’Souza was the chief guest on the occasion.
Earlier, the programme started with the inauguration of the new association "Konkani Welfare Association Sion" by Janet DSouza the Director of Maulana Azad Minorities Finance Development Corporation. Chairman John Rebello, Vice Chairman, Vice Chairman Harry Sequeira, President Dulcine Furtado, Vice President Leena Pinto, Secretary Denis D'Souza, Joint Secretary Hilda Rego, Treasurer Molly Sequeira, Joint Treasurer Rita Aranha and the committee members of the new association were present during the occasion. Politician Raghunat Tavai released the souvenir of the occasion.

John D’Silva called on the new generation of Konkans to explore entrepreneurial potential that will empower the vibrancy of the community.
