Udupi, Jul 9: Ramesh Kanchan, president of Udupi Block Congress, has issued a strong challenge to Bharat Shetty, urging him to try and touch Rahul Gandhi, the opposition party leader, if he has the guts.
In a press release, Kanchan stated, “While Bharat Shetty attempts to slap Rahul Gandhi, Congress party workers will not sit idle. As a legislator who has taken an oath according to the Constitution, Bharat Shetty's current behavior is unbecoming and resembles that of a rowdy, which does not suit his role as an MLA.”
Kanchan defended Rahul Gandhi, saying, “Rahul Gandhi’s words did not insult Hinduism. The world has witnessed the changes the BJP is making in the name of Hinduism. Rahul Gandhi has highlighted this issue, not insulted the religion.”
Quoting Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati of Uttaramnaya Jyotishpeetha, Kanchan noted, “Rahul Gandhi’s speech emphasized that Hinduism rejects violence. However, he pointed out that BJP members engage in violence, falsehood, and incitement in the name of Hinduism.”
Kanchan further asserted, “Rahul Gandhi won his seat with lacs of votes from the people, unlike those who entered the Lok Sabha through the back door. As the leader of the opposition, he has the authority to present his opinion. It is not uncommon for BJP leaders, who struggle without power in the state, to make reckless statements.”
Kanchan expressed his disappointment with the recent behavior of Coastal MLAs, who were once a source of pride. He criticized the newly elected BJP MLAs for their inappropriate actions, including causing disturbances in front of schools, police stations, and even the High Court. He mentioned that Bharat Shetty has now joined this group.
Kanchan concluded by stating that the public is watching these antics and will respond appropriately. He demanded that MLA Bharat Shetty apologize for his remarks about Rahul Gandhi, or else face a fierce protest from Congress workers.
