Udupi, Jul 10: Residents and commuters along the stretch from Brahmagiri Circle to Ajjarkad District Hospital are facing severe challenges due to deteriorating road conditions, just three months after the road was asphalted.
The road has succumbed to recent rains, resulting in dangerous potholes that have caused accidents involving two-wheelers. The deteriorating conditions are also hindering ambulance movements, potentially jeopardising emergency response times.
According to Nithyanada Olakadu, a local social worker, "During the time of Paryaya, the City Municipality took charge of road repair works estimated at Rs 5 crore in Udupi. The road started deteriorating soon after completion, and now, heavy rains have worsened the situation, creating hazardous conditions for commuters, including school students."
Residents have expressed concern that the recent refurbishment did not meet expected standards compared to previous works. Olakadu urged immediate investigation and action from the Deputy Commissioner and Municipal Commissioner to address the situation promptly.
The urgency for comprehensive repairs to restore safe passage for all road users is critical amidst the growing danger posed by the potholes.
