Kasargod, Jul 12: Sruthi Chandrashekar, 32, accused of defrauding several individuals by posing as different professionals and making false allegations, was denied anticipatory bail by the Kasaragod sessions court after a three-day hearing. She allegedly deceived people with fabricated stories such as terminal illness or marriage proposals, and threatened to file rape charges if asked to return money.
During the hearing, Sruthi claimed to be an ISRO employee, which significantly undermined her credibility. Her lawyer argued against the charges, alleging conspiracy and police bias. They stated intentions to appeal to the High Court for bail.
"Akhilesh's advocate K Shreekanth exposed her story by producing her handwritten and signed First Information Statement to Mangaluru's East police," said a lawyer present in court. "It said 'I am working as a technical assistant in ISRO in Thiruvananthapuram.'"
The revelation proved detrimental to Sruthi's case, despite her lawyer's attempt to minimize its significance. Allegations of police bias and conspiracy were raised in her defense, citing her involvement in other legal disputes under the SC/ST Act. Nevertheless, the sessions judge ruled against her, prompting her legal team to announce their intention to appeal the decision in the High Court.
Despite her lawyer dismissing it as an inconsequential misrepresentation, the court found her claim damaging to her credibility and rejected her bail application.
"We are moving the High Court for bail," Sruthi's lawyer confirmed after the ruling, indicating the continuation of her legal battle amid mounting controversies.
