Mangaluru: AJ Hospital launches geriatric caregiver, home health aide course

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jul 13: In a collaborative effort to enhance elderly care, AJ Hospital and Research Centre (AJHRC) and AJ Institute of Hospital Management (AJIHM), in partnership with the central government and the healthcare sector skill council, New Delhi, have introduced a new course on geriatric caregiver and home health aide.

In a significant achievement, a hospital in coastal Karnataka has become the first in the region to be certified as an approved training provider for two prominent programmes.

The inaugural and orientation programme for this course was held on July 5, aiming to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care for the elderly.

Today, much of the care given to the senior community is untrained, ad hoc and often unsafe. The purpose of the course is to serve the elderly community by providing certified training on patient handling, care, and treatment to be offered in home or assisted living settings. Another significant contribution is to provide early school leavers and pre-graduates with professional and vocational skills as healthcare aides and geriatric care workers that would allow them to pursue sustainable livelihoods and become productive members of society.

To register the course, contact 8904001124/ 0824-6613153m, HR department, A J Hospital & Research Centre, (office working hours 8.30 am to 5.00 pm). The course period is between 2 to 5 months at a nominal fee of Rs 3000 for the geriatric caregiver and Rs 5000 for the Home Health Aide (HHA) courses, respectively.

This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the well-being of the senior community by ensuring the provision of compassionate and competent care. Both the courses are approved by the government of India under skill council, New Delhi. The certificates awarded are recognised both nationally and internationally.
