Udupi, Jul 13: The Udupi city municipal council (CMC) is intensifying efforts to prevent infectious diseases like dengue, malaria, and chicken pox during the rainy season by enforcing a ban on plastic usage within its jurisdiction.

Recent surveys conducted by the Municipal Council have resulted in fines totalling Rs 8,300 imposed on 9 shops for cleanliness violations. Additionally, inspections of 17 shop fronts led to fines amounting to Rs 46,500 for using prohibited plastic.

Despite warnings from the municipal council, if shop owners fail to maintain cleanliness and continue using banned plastic, the municipal commissioner has warned of revoking their business licenses.

Good effort but hardly enough... Furor for one or two days and again plastic fest.... Implementation n enforcement is blatantly lacking.... We are resigned to use and throw now... I may sound pessimistic but that's how ordinary common people function... Unless we change nothing can change....
