Udupi: Negligence by Mescom officials puts lives at risk in Manipal's Uma-Maheshwara Nagar

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Jul 13: Negligence by officials of the Manipal subdivision of Mescom has created a hazardous situation in Uma-Maheshwara Nagar, Saralebettu area, posing a serious risk to local residents.

Electrical poles and wires on the 4th and 5th cross of Uma-Maheshwara Nagar are completely overgrown with plants and vines, making them invisible and dangerous. The area is densely populated, with many students and working professionals using these roads daily. Locals fear walking along the roadsides due to the hidden live electrical wires.

Prathvi, a resident of the area, expressed his frustration to Daijiworld, stating, "Mescom officials are showing utter negligence. Despite repeated complaints to clear the overgrown plants from the electrical poles, no action has been taken. Mescom officials cite a shortage of labour as an excuse. Immediate measures are necessary to prevent any potential danger to residents."

Residents have urged Mescom officials to address this issue urgently to ensure the safety of the community.

What a excuse from Mescom .They think all are bakras? One side most of the people are saying no jobs ,Mescom gives excuse of no labourers. They are only so lazy .Later in monsson so many children and elderly people without knowing step on wires and die.Why cant one file case against when they dont come? They must clear it before monsoon beginns. Not later.later it is difficult they say? They get good pay and tipps more than salary..Lazy bugs.If possible when it is private property, people should see that they cut and avoid dangers .

Not sometimes tips. Everytime they need tips. If you dont give tips next time they won't come. Even if they come, they will delay their arrival and just fix the dismantled wire temporarily then n there only. Same thing with bsnl mechanics. All on bribes and tips.chors

It is the first responsibilty of property owners to see that trees, plants & vines from their property do not cover mescom lines.

I do not think in any part of the country or even the world there are such negligent officials in electricity supply set ups like the ones we have at Mescom. Counting the deaths caused by their negligence will establish this. The Chief of MESCOM should be thrown out immediately

This scene shot is a not at all an exception; one will find more deadlier such death traps in multiple places wherever this third grade power utility supplier is in operation! Worst than third world places! God only knows which (national or international) standards this company is adhering too?? Only one's divine angel can protect people from sudden & fatal electrocution!!

MESCOM is in Mangalore and Udupi, Karnataka, India and citing shortage of labor is the biggest joke of the year. Tell these clumsy officials of MESCOM to go to the Udupi City Bus stand area at 7am onwards on any given day and they will find thousands of labourers awaiting any type of job for a living. Please don’t accept some bullshit excuse from MESCOM who charge us such high rates, recently they hiked their charges by 30%

This looks really frightening... Mescom people cut massive tree main branches in unscientific manner in many locations... This is the most important job they have to do... Live tree windings on the live wire combined with rain water can take lives of people in seconds....
