Beltangady, Jul 16: Locals intercepted a truck laden with Bharath brand rice, provided by the central government at a discounted price, being sold near a grocery store on Charmady-Ujire road.

The truck, which arrived from Haveri, contained 1,000 bags of 10 kg rice, being sold for Rs 29 per kg. Due to the absence of an invoice, locals grew suspicious and reported the matter to the tahsildar.

Beltangady Tahsildar Prithvisanikam and officials from the food department visited the scene and confiscated the truck, as it did not have the necessary documents for the transportation of the rice.
