Byndoor, Jul 16: Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days in the Byndoor region has raised concerns of a potential landslide near Ottinene, close to Byndoor.

During the construction of the national highway's four-lane project, a hill was cut into. The heavy rains of the past three to four days have now put this hillside at risk of collapsing.

Every monsoon, this area faces the threat of landslides. Currently, the hill in Ottinene has begun to slowly erode. If the rains continue, there is a significant risk that the entire hill could collapse onto the highway. Such an event would sever the connection between Uttara Kannada and Udupi. Drivers are now traveling this route with trepidation.

Warning issued

The IRB company carried out the national highway construction. However, locals accuse the company of conducting unscientific work, leading to the annual landslide threat.
