Mangaluru, Jul 18: Due to widespread heavy rainfall in the district, as forecasted by the Indian Meteorological Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, the Disaster Management Authority has declared a holiday for all Anganwadis, government, aided, and private primary, high schools, and pre-university colleges (up to 12th grade) in five taluks of Dakshina Kannada district on Friday, July 19.
The five taluks are Puttur, Bantwal, Beltangady, Sullia and Kadaba. There is no holiday for schools and colleges of Mangaluru, Ullal, Moodbidri and Mulki area.
In addition to declaring a holiday, the following emergency measures have been implemented:
- Potential flood and landslide-prone areas have been identified, and necessary precautionary measures have been taken.
- The public and tourists are advised to avoid low-lying areas with water, lakes, riverbanks, and seashores.
- Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea for fishing.
- Due to the heavy rainfall in the taluk, the public is warned to stay away from rivers, streams, and electric poles/wires.
- To prevent potential damage, the public is urged to avoid dangerous situations and adhere to the advice and instructions of the district administration.
- In case of any incidents or warnings related to natural disasters, the public should immediately inform the respective Panchayat or district local bodies.
