Puttur, Jul 19: A fire broke out in a KSRTC Airavat bus at Halegate near Uppinangady in the taluk on July 18. Passengers were safely rescued, and the fire was brought under control with the help of locals.

The bus was traveling from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. Due to a technical issue in the AC control system at the rear end of the bus, a fire erupted.

The alert driver, noticing the smoke, immediately stopped the vehicle and evacuated all the passengers. Subsequently, the driver, conductor, and locals extinguished the fire using rainwater accumulated on the sides of the road.

The passengers were transferred to an alternate bus sent from the Puttur depot.
