Mangaluru: Negligence by Mescom claims another life; college girl electrocuted

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (VP)

Mangaluru, Jul 19: The negligence by Mescom has claimed another life in the district.

The deceased girl is identified as Ashwini Shetty (18), who tragically passed away on Friday, July 18, at Gurupura.

A neighbour of the deceased, speaking about the incident, said, "There were sparks emitting from the wires, and we immediately informed the Kaikamba KEB, but they did not respond to our calls. Later, around 7 pm, we heard someone screaming. Everyone gathered, and we tried to take her to the hospital, but we were unsuccessful in saving her life. This whole incident could have been controlled if the Mescom officials had responded on time and cut the power supply. The mother of the girl is still unaware of her demise."

Ashwini Shetty was studying at a private college in Mangaluru and aspired to be a CA. She is survived by her mother, father, and elder brother.

Considering the spate of deaths of innocent people by electric shocks due the third rate infrastructure of the power utility provider; it's high time some top person of the company takes accountability and steps down! All next of kin of innocents who perished in such gory deaths due to electric shocks should get together and file a multicrore class action suit against this organisation after putting all papers in order! Walking on the roads too has become extremely risky nowadays 😞; horrific state of affairs in the so called Smart City!!

Mescom never picks phone during night time.I had a very bad experience a couple of days earlier,I tried ringing for nearly 15 minutes we can hear busy tone Can't understand with whom they are talking.I presume that they should have whatsapp do we can message our problem for action, which has to be supervised by their executive and prompt action tzbe taken.Secondly they must reply the message regarding the positive action taken by them.

I request our DC to take strictly action on mescom, It's not a joke to loose people life here. Are we in remote or hill station where mescom officials cannot pic the calls and respond, we strongly condemn this negligence and dismiss of officials immediately. MLA's/MP's awake pls stop these incidents at mangalore. Gurpur people please protest and let the mescom give compensation to her family.
