Puttur, Jul 21: A young man went missing after parking his scooter near the Gauri rivulet at Sarve in the taluk on Friday night. It is suspected that he might have jumped into the rivulet. Fire service personnel searched the rivulet all day Saturday but could not find any clues.
The missing youth has been identified as Sanmit T (21), son of Chandra Gowda, a resident of Tekkithadi in Kudmaru village and an employee at the Mahindra Showroom near Mukrampadi Industrial Estate.
Sanmit's Dio scooter was found 150 meters from the rivulet, along with his mobile phone, wallet, helmet, and tiffin box.
Sanmit usually took the bus to work at Mukrampadi. However, on Friday, he decided to ride his scooter, mentioning that he might have to work late. When his father called him at 9:30 pm, Sanmit said he would be home by 10 pm. When he had not returned by 11 pm, his father tried calling again, but there was no answer.
Worried, Sanmit’s father and a neighbor, who also works at the Mahindra showroom, began searching for him and found his scooter near the Sarve Gauri rivulet. They immediately informed the Sampya police.
Fire service personnel arrived on the morning of July 21 and searched the rivulet for nearly three kilometers using two boats but could not locate Sanmit.
Sanmit, who had previously worked in Bengaluru, had recently returned to his native place and got a job at Mukrampadi. A few months ago, he was involved in a serious scooter accident at Gadipila, which resulted in a grievous head injury. After recovering, he returned to work three months ago. Friday was the first time he had driven the scooter since the accident.
Sanmit's father, Chandra Gowda, mentioned that his son had experienced memory issues following the accident, although his general health had been good. The family is not facing any financial difficulties. Chandra Gowda was supposed to accompany his son to a court in Mangaluru regarding the scooter's insurance and had taken leave from work on Saturday for this reason.
