Mangaluru, Jul 24: Pre-primary classes have commenced in 578 government primary schools across Karnataka, including 10 government schools in Dakshina Kannada (DK) for the academic year 2023-24 and 11 for 2024-25. In Udupi, eight schools for 2023-24 and 10 for 2024-25 have been approved to start pre-primary classes.
A meeting held in June by the central government's education department addressed this initiative.
The circular instructs schools to begin only one section of LKG, admitting children between the ages of four and five. A minimum of 20 students is required to start the class, with a maximum capacity of 30 children. A suitable classroom should be identified and decorated using local art teachers or artists. One teacher and one maid should be recruited on a temporary basis for each pre-primary class.

Guest lecturers will receive a salary of Rs 10,000 per month, and maids will get Rs 5,000 per month. The teacher should have at least 50% marks in pre-primary class education training or should have passed a Diploma in Nursery Teachers Education from an organization recognized by NCTE. Pre-primary school classes should be held from 10 am to 3.30 pm, and LKG students should be provided with milk, snacks, and meals similar to those in Anganwadis.
The approved schools in Dakshina Kannada district for the year 2023-24 include Suribailu Government HPS and Narikombu Government Higher Primary School in Bantwal, Andinje DKZP Government Higher Primary School and Guruvayanakere DKZP Government Higher Primary School in Beltangady Taluk, Kenjaru DKZP Government Higher Primary School in Mangaluru North Constituency, New Padpu DKZP Higher Primary School in Mangaluru South, Neerkere DKZP Government Higher Primary School in Moodbidri, Irde DKZP Government Higher Primary School in Puttur, Nettanige Mudnoor DKZP Government Higher Primary School and Devachalla DKZP Government Higher Primary School in Sullia.
For the year 2024-25, the approved schools include Chennathodi DKZP GHPS and Bolanthimogaru DKZP Government Higher Primary School in Bantwal, Badaga Karandoor DKZP Government Higher Primary School and Kokkada DKZP Government Higher Primary School in Beltangady Taluk, Chlyaru DKZP Government GHPS and KS Rao Nagara DKZP Government GHPS in Mangaluru North, Meenadi DKZP Government Higher Primary School and Moodushedde DKZP Government Higher Primary School in Mangaluru South, Ganjimutt DKZP Government Higher Primary School and Pucchamogaru DKZP Government Higher Primary School, Arantodu DKZP Government Higher Primary School in Sullia.
In Udupi, the approved schools for the year 2023-24 include Ajekaru-Marne GHPS and Mudradi GHPS in Karkala Taluk, Chittooru GHPS in Byndoor Constituency, Manipura GHPS in Udupi Taluk, Guddeangadi-Bommarabettu GHPS, Shankaranarayan GHPS, Vakwadi GHPS, and Brahmavar Manoor GHPS.
For the year 2024-25, the approved schools include Brahmavar Kavadi GHPS, Kumbragodu GHPS, Chitrapadi GHPS, Uppunda GHPS, Byndoor GHPS, Indiranagara GHPS, Kodangayi GHPS, Kervashe GHPS, Beejadi GHPS, and Amasebailu GHPS.
