Udupi, Jul 25: Dr Vidyakumari, deputy commissioner, has issued orders suspending Arun Kumar, the project director of Nirmithi Kendra, from his duties. This action follows controversies surrounding the incomplete inauguration of the Parashuram Theme Park, constructed on Umikal Hill in Karkala taluk.
The construction work, which included the installation of a bronze statue of Lord Parashuram and the development of the theme park, was entrusted to Nirmithi Kendra Udupi district. The project, estimated at Rs 11,05,00,000, received administrative approval for Rs 6,72,00,000, which has already been disbursed. However, the park was inaugurated prematurely without completing the construction or handing it over to the concerned department.
Reports in various newspapers and media outlets have highlighted concerns over the construction quality and allegations of disrespect towards religious sentiments. Discussions both in favour of and against the project are ongoing. The police department and the chief justice H N Nagmohan Das commission of inquiry are actively investigating the matter, with a case registered in the high court.
Due to the possibility of obstruction or interference in the investigation, Arun Kumar has been relieved of his duties as project director. Divakar P, assistant project director of Nirmithi Kendra Udupi, has been appointed as the acting project director with immediate effect.
