Mangaluru, Jul 30: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) arrested two notorious criminals and associates of Kali Yogish from Falnir on July 30, disclosed police commissioner Anupam Agrawal.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammed Haneef, 40, a resident of Paivalike in Kasargod, and Mohammed Rafiq, 36, from Mudipu, currently residing in Hoskote, Bengaluru.

The duo was apprehended in their Innova car. Both have 14-15 cases registered against them across Kasargod, Kumble, Kannur, Mangaluru City, and Dakshina Kannada.

Haneef is implicated in several cases, including the Sanjeev Shetty shop shootout, Puttur Rajdhani jewellery shootout, and the Kasargod Bevinje PWD contractor shootout.

During the arrest, authorities seized a country-made pistol, a revolver, 12 live bullets, 42 grams of MDMA, three mobile phones, an Innova car, and a weighing machine, with the total value of seized properties estimated at Rs 10 lakh.

The accused reportedly procured the revolver from Uttar Pradesh and the country-made pistol from Madikeri. They had accepted a contract to eliminate businessman Dinesh Shetty from Karkala but failed to execute the plan despite receiving an advance payment.

Kali Yogish, through his associates, also demanded Rs 50 lac from Saurashtra Cloth Store. Currently, Kali Yogish is out of the country and remains in contact with his associates through internet calls, frequently changing his accomplices.

When asked about the progress following a jail raid, police commissioner Anupam Agrawal stated, "A case has been filed at Barke Police Station, and the investigation is ongoing. There are 389 inmates in the jail, among whom 110 have been tested for drugs, with 40 testing positive."

“First of all, how do drugs and mobile phones get into the jail, and how are mobile phones used there? This means that even in jail, prisoners are given five-star hotel facilities. If the police give the underworld people proper treatment on the spot or encounter them, then there will be no one left like Kali Yogish or Gora Yogish. But who will do all this??”
