Kundapur, Jul 31: A crocodile that had been trapped in a well for the past one and a half days, causing concern among local residents, was finally rescued through the continuous efforts of officials and villagers.
The crocodile was first spotted on Tuesday in the well at the house of Vishwanath Udupa in Vadeeramath, Nagoor, under the Kirimanjeshwar Gram Panchayat jurisdiction in Byndoor taluk. The Byndoor Forest Department, Police Department, Fire Department, and Revenue Department joined forces to set up nets in the well. They cleared one side of the well and placed a baited trap with chicken meat in an attempt to capture the crocodile. With the assistance of Nagoor Network and Security Solutions, CCTV cameras were installed around the well to monitor the crocodile’s movements remotely via computer.
Despite all these efforts, the crocodile remained at the bottom of the well, eluding capture. Even after an all-night operation on Tuesday, the teams had no success. Finally, following the advice of local fishermen, a net was lowered into the water to trap the crocodile. The crocodile was then lifted out of the well and subsequently taken away by forest officials, who released it into a safer environment.
