Kundapur, Aug 2: The district administration of Udupi has initiated repairs on the Hanja-Kaarimane-Edmale road, which falls under the limits of Madamakki gram panchayat in the naxal-infested Hebri region. This decision follows a detailed photo report published by Daijiworld on July 21, highlighting the road's deplorable condition.

Madamakki, known as the Cherrapunji of Karnataka, is situated on the Agumbe plateau and is surrounded by forests. The 2.5 km mud road connecting Hanja-Kaarmane-Edmale had turned into a muddy mess due to ten days of incessant rain, severely affecting the 150 families in the area. Students and daily wage labourers struggled to travel to school and work.

Daijiworld's report alerted local representatives and officials. In response, local leaders informed MLC and KPCC working president Manjunath Bhandary, who brought the issue to the attention of the DC and zilla panchayat CEO. Consequently, the work of asphalting the road began on Thursday, bringing much-needed relief to the 150 affected families.
