Puttur: Accused in 12-year-old theft case arrested

Puttur, Aug 3: Mohammed Shafi, accused of forcefully snatching a gold chain from a woman’s neck at Golithottu under Uppinangady police station limits 12 years ago, has been apprehended by the police and produced in court.

Mohammed Shafi, a resident of the eighth block of Krishnapura under the limits of Suratkal Chokkabettu village, had committed the theft in 2012. He arrived on a bike and snatched the gold chain from a pedestrian woman’s neck. Although he was arrested and released on bail, he failed to attend further court hearings.

Uppinangady circle inspector Ravi B S and his team traced Shafi to Amparu in Udupi district on Thursday. Shafi is also accused in several other cases within the limits of Beltangady, Bantwal, and Vittal police stations.
