Mangaluru, Aug 5: The fifth day of the novena leading up to the feast of St Lawrence was observed with great devotion at Bondel Church.
The theme for the day, "When we pray for others, God always listens to them."
At 5:30 pm devotees gathered for adoration which was led by Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo, followed by a solemn mass. The main celebrant was Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo, director of Father Muller's Hospital, Thumbay, who was joined by Fr William D'Souza, assistant parish priest and Fr Melwin Pinto MSIJ as concelebrants.
In his impactful homily, Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo highlighted the significance of prayer. "Prayer is the breath of soul and the organ of the heart which means speaking with God from our heart and soul and knowing he hears us and will respond to our needs," he said. He also introduced the "Five-Finger Prayer" of Pope Francis, a simple yet profound method to guide one's prayers:
"1. Thumb is the closest finger to you. Start praying/expressing gratitude for those who are closest to you.
2. Index Finger - Pray/express gratitude for those who teach you, instruct you and heal you.
3. Middle Finger is the tallest. It reminds us of our leaders and those in authority.
4. Ring Finger - the weakest finger. It reminds us to pray for those in need.
5. Little Finger- reminds you to pray/be grateful for yourself," he explained.
The mass was further enriched by the choir from St Antony Church, Anthonykatte, whose melodious hymns lifted the spirits of all in attendance.
Special prayers were also offered for friends and relatives.
