Mangaluru, Aug 6: A fishing boat that departed from the Bunder fishing port sank about 80 nautical miles from shore. All 10 fishermen on board were rescued by the crew of another boat and brought safely ashore.

The boat left the port at 3 am, and around 4:15 am, a fire broke out in the engine room due to an electrical short circuit. As the fire spread rapidly, the fishermen jumped into the sea.

Another boat in the vicinity saw the men in the water and rushed to their aid, rescuing all of them. The fishing boat was engulfed in flames and eventually sank.

The estimated loss is around Rs 15 lac. The boat was owned by Rasheeda, a resident of Hosabettu.
