Dhaka, Aug 6: Bangladesh president Mohammed Shahabuddin has dissolved the parliament on Tuesday following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation and departure from the country amidst widespread protests.
The decision was made after the president consulted with military leaders, political figures, civil society representatives, and student movement leaders, according to a statement from the president’s office cited by the Daily Star.
Additionally, former prime minister Khaleda Zia, the chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, has been released.
The process of releasing individuals detained between July 1 and August is underway, with many already freed.
