Mangaluru, Aug 7: TEDxFMMC hosted an inspiring and thought-provoking event at the Father Muller Convention Centre on August 3. The event, themed ‘Under the Surface’, provided attendees with a day filled with enlightening talks, captivating performances, and ample networking opportunities.
TEDx, an independently organized TED event, brings together local communities to share ideas worth spreading. The ‘Under the Surface’ theme encouraged speakers and performers to delve into hidden aspects of their fields and personal experiences, revealing deeper insights and fresh perspectives.
The day began with a solemn inaugural ceremony featuring a prayer song by students and the traditional lighting of the lamp by esteemed dignitaries, including Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, director of FMCI, Fr Jeevan George Sequeira, administrator of FMMCH, Fr Ajith B Menezes, administrator of FMMC, Dr Antony Sylvan D’Souza, dean of FMMC, and Dr Archana Bhat from the department of general medicine as the faculty organiser of TEDXFMMC. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho congratulated the organizing team and Dr Archana Bhat officially opened the event.
The event featured a line-up of distinguished speakers who shared their unique insights and experiences:
1. Dr Prema Dhanraj: A Padma Shri awardee and founder of Agni Raksha, discussed her ground-breaking work in burns and reconstructive surgery.
2. Dr Aqsa Shaikh: India's first transgender doctor, offered perspectives on gender diversity in healthcare.
3. Tauseef Ahmed: An ardent animal care activist, highlighted the importance of animal welfare.
4. Ramesh Rao: A celebrated artist, showcased his blend of traditional and contemporary Indian art.
5. Alice Abraham: President of Impact Group of Institutions, explored the hidden dynamics of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors.
6. Adline Castelino: Miss Diva 2020 and Miss Universe 3rd runner-up, advocated for farmers, the LGBTQIA+ community, and women's health.
7. Shankar Junior: The ‘Houdini of India’, captivated the audience with his mesmerizing magic.
8. Frizzell D’Souza: A talented singer, enchanted the audience with her soulful voice.
9. Mrunalini Kunte: A women's international master of chess and coach, inspired future players.
10. Prof Dr Kiran Jeevan: Emphasized the beauty of life's challenges in his talk, ‘Some Scars Are Beautiful’.
11. Ester Noronha: An actress and singer, captivated the audience with her artistic flair.
In addition to the speakers, the event featured an array of performers:
- Frizzell D’Souza: Returned to the stage with another musical treat.
- Shankar Junior: Delivered more awe-inspiring magic.
- Rinaal Kottari: Blended classical and contemporary dance in a stunning performance.
- Indiva Band: Lifted spirits with their folk fusion music.
- Mrinal D Bhat: Offered the richness of Carnatic music.
- Angela Sarah D’Almeida: A young and talented western vocalist charmed the audience.
- Aditya Sridhar: Doctor, writer, and stand-up comedian, blended humour with insight.
- Nicky Pinto: Known as Nostalgia from Dance Plus Season 3, wowed the crowd with his dance moves.
Registered attendees enjoyed not only the intellectual feast but also a variety of culinary delights, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and took home a bag of TEDx merchandise goodies.
